My Internship

During my internship at Johns Hopkins University, I was able to learn valuable job related skills that will help me become successful in my future career. Two things that I have been able to improve on through my internship are organization and problem solving skills. Working as a financial analyst requires a great deal of organization as you need to have access to required information at the touch of a button or hard copy via a file.  Problem solving skills are absolutely needed when research of a budget brings to light a descrepancy that needs immediate attention.  Each day is different in the finance arena, which gives the opportunity to learn something new every day and improve on those skills.

In my mid-term semester evaluation, my supervisor noted, "A little impressed by her actions demonstrating responsibility and dependability. From my experience, some young people now a days don't seem to have that quality. Not only does she perform well during the work day, she has even asked if some of her tasks can be done at home."  This comment solidified the knowledge and work ethics acquired while in college and interning.

I have been able to make many contributions to my employer throughout my internship. For example, I was given the task of monitoring the telephone account on a monthly basis. As I was researching the account, I noticed that there were two phone extensions on the account that did not belong to my department. I also noticed that the equipment charges from the past three months increased by a significant amount. I contacted the account supervisor and she informed me that this was a mistake and that we were being over charged. By finding these mistakes, I was able to reduce the amount spent on that account which allows for more money to spent in other areas.

After being an intern at Johns Hopkins University, I have learned that had work and dedication will pay off with my next employer. I put forth my best effort on every task that I was given. By working hard, I was able to be successful in all the tasks that I was assigned to complete.

Here is a copy of my job description at Johns Hopkins University, Job Description. You will be able to see that this internship allowed me to be involved in a variety of tasks that gave me the opportunity to be involved in a real "working" internship.

I have also attached a link to my learning plan which I developed before I began my internship.I developed this as a way to challenge myself at the beginning of my internship.

Attached you will find the employer's final KSA performance evaluation that my internship supervisor filled out that summarizes my performance throughout my internship.

Finally, here is a link to my learning plan results assessment  which summarizes how well I believe I achieved each one of my internship objectives.
