Executive Summary
As a senior at Towson University, I have had the opportunity to expand on a variety of my skills in order to better prepare me in the business environment. As an intern at Johns Hopkins University (during the Spring 2010), I was able to learn how to reconcile and monitor many of the accounts used to fund cancer research. I was involved in many activities regarding each account, including payroll, health insurance and creating and closing accounts based on the grant applications. I was trusted with confidential employee and company information.
While still in school, I also worked part-time at Chesapeake Woodworking. Working there for the past three years has allowed me to gain the knowledge and experience on how to operate a small company. I was responsible for ordering supplies and maintaining the inventory to maximize storage space and to improve costs. Since last year, I have helped reduce the ordering costs by over $5,000.00. In turn, providing more money to be spent in more valuable areas. I also handled the day to day activities in the office which included monitoring accounts payable and receivable. These all played a major role in reducing loss in revenue.
I have volunteered at the MDSPCA located in Baltimore, Maryland. By volunteering, I was able to give back to my community while also expanding on my communication skills, time management skills and working in a fast paced environment.
I am currently a Business major with a concentration in Management. After graduation, I would like to work as a Financial Analyst for a large, non-profit organization. Through my internship, I have developed the necessary skills needed to be successful when working in the financial field. These skills include: reconciling, payroll, cost sharing, transfer of funds, etc.
This portfolio will demonstrate the variety of my skills and abilities and also showcase the different projects that I have worked on throughout both my professional and educational experiences
